Following a £5 million refurbishment The Academy of Medical Sciences at 41 Portland Place, London has reopened as a prestigious venue for non residential meetings and events. Featuring seven meeting rooms, a purpose built conference suite and exhibition hall, the venue combined can host up to 214 delegates.


The Grade II* listed building designed by James Adam in 1773 is in a prime location in the heart of London, close to Euston train station and within walking distance of both Oxford Circus and Regents Park tube stations. It is now open to the commercial market offering a range of facilities to accommodate meetings, conferences, press briefings and launches, private dining, drinks receptions and non residential events.

41 Portland Place was a private home up until the Second World War with the death of its last inhabitant Lady Alington in 1939.  Whilst the Battle of Britain was fought above, the building at 41 Portland Place remained standing in a city ravaged by bomb damage.  By the end of the war the nature of the local area surrounding 41 Portland Place had become known as a centre of consultant medical practice and known as the ‘medical quarter’ of London.

Rooms available at 41 Portland Place include a selection of period and modern meeting rooms seating between 8 and 80 people; a purpose built conference suite for up to 50 delegates and an outdoor terrace.

Located on the first floor, the elegant John Newsom-Davis Council Chamber is suitable for board meetings, small lectures, dinners and drinks receptions of up to 100 people. On the ground floor, the purpose built Wolfson Conference Suite and contemporary exhibition area can accommodate up to 100 delegates when combined. The lower ground floor also features two meeting rooms each for up to 15 delegates, ideal for small meetings and training events that require interactive white-board and video conferencing technology.
